GSA OUT OF THE GATE FAST FOR FY’18

Only a month into the new fiscal year, the General Services Administration is moving quickly. As originally reported by Federal News Radio’s Jason Miller, the agency recently announced the award of 70 new contracts that will comprise its popular “VETS 2” IT IDIQ contract.  This contract is expected to generate over $2 billion in business over its life.  The agency is also sharply ramping up its efforts to assist customer agencies in transitioning off of the legacy Networx telecomm contract and onto the newly-awarded EIS vehicle.  Perhaps the more interesting GSA activity, according to Miller, is that the agency is working with the White House on four Centers of Excellence (COE’s) projects in key technology initiatives.  The initiatives cover such areas as establishing and growing identity and authentication services, providing a portfolio of cloud computing services across multiple cloud service provider (CSP) offerings, using consolidated contact center services to make it easier and cost-effective for the public to access federal services, and improving access to data so that government leaders can better manage agency missions.  This initiative may be of interest to contractors that could potentially support these initiatives and the frameworks around them that will have to be created to execute.  GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service is under new management and it is starting to show.
