GSA TO ISSUE AI PROCUREMENT GUIDANCE

GSA’s IT Category Management office will issue new guidance to federal agencies on how to acquire generative AI on or about April 27th according to the agency’s Chief AI Officer.  The guidance is designed “to help guide” safe acquisition of AI, said Zach Whitman, as quoted in a recent article originally published by Bloomberg Government, and will help describe “the things you need to watch out for” in procuring it.  Although the guidance is intended for government agencies, companies providing AI solutions should most definitely take note of the guidance and ensure that their solutions either meet, or can be reasonably adapted to meet, GSA’s recommendations.    It is unclear whether a new product code will be created for the market, but Whitman told Bloomberg Government that the guidance would support incorporation of generative AI into existing agency tools.  Contractors should watch this space.
