The General Services Administration is planning to increase the dollar ceiling on the existing Alliant II Government Wide Acquisition vehicle (GWAC) to allow time for the Alliant3 follow on to be awarded and ready.  This move comes as the GSA IT Category as a whole saw substantial business in FY’24, with their top contracts accounting for well over $50 billion in business.  Leading the way, as it always does (albeit under the radar) was the IT Schedule portfolio that saw over $27 billion in business.  IT and professional service sales were $12.8 billion, while Alliant 2 saw $10.6 billion in total business.  The 8(a) StARS contract achieved $1.5 billion while the VETS 2 GWAC came in at $480 million.  In addition to increased use, GSA’s customer satisfaction numbers also increased among both agency customers and contractors.  All of this indicates that while everything may not be perfect in GSA-land, the agency is providing IT acquisition vehicles that meet customer needs and services that match expectations.  This is important news for contractors that partner with the agency as it shows the continued value of having one or more GSA vehicles to reach customer agencies.  GSA vehicles provide capabilities needed by federal customers from contractors that have an established track record of customer success.  They’re an important way to answer the “how” question when customers love your solution but aren’t sure how to acquire it.  GSA isn’t resting on its laurels, either.  The agency continues to develop and hone its technology “radar” to identify emerging technology based on where research and development money is being allocated in the commercial market. This helps the agency stay ahead of the curve on new solutions helping to ensure that the government isn’t always a 2^nd generation user of newer technology.  While governmentwide regulations and its traditionally cautious approach to tech can’t be ignored, GSA is working to be the acquisition agency of choice for all types of IT solutions.
