D-DAY ANNIVERSARY IS OCCASION FOR REALITY CHECK

Thirty-two years ago today President Ronald Reagan said in France, “These are the boys of Pointe Du Hoc.  These are the men who took the cliffs.  These are the champions who helped free a continent.”  On the 72nd anniversary of the D-Day invasion we are, hopefully, reminded of what a people can do when working together toward a common purpose.  We are also reminded of the great things of which the United States is capable.  Settling for second best has never been an American trait.  As we remember the sacrifice of the boys of Pointe Du Hoc, and all of those who came ashore in Normandy 72 years ago, let’s also remember that.  If we believe that those who may soon fill Reagan’s shoes aren’t worthy of the mantle, we, the people, can follow the example we remember today and, while not a continent, take back our country from those who would use it for their own, narrow purposes.
