SUCCESSFUL GSA EVENT MAY SIGNAL RETURN OF THE GOVERNMENT SHOW

Approximately 2,000 people attended this week’s GSA Federal Acquisition Training Symposium in Huntsville, Alabama.  Though small in size, the tight focus on Army and Professional Services contracting led most attendees to view the event as both a success and a possible springboard to future successful government trade shows.  After four years in the penalty box, government-focused shows may be ready to stage a comeback.  This could be good news for upcoming events, such as Acquire, coming soon in Washington. D.C.  This tech-focused show is attempting to break the ice by reminding feds and their contractors that there are many benefits to gathering together for education and networking opportunities.  One key does seem to be the education factor.  Federal program and acquisition officials are starved for the latest information on tech developments and many must also obtain a certain amount of continuing education credits to maintain certifications.  The GSA show, for example, featured dozens of classes, with many instructors coming from the Defense Acquisition University.  Government-focused shows had mostly been good opportunities for both feds and contractors.  If there is a thaw in the air, companies should be prepared to budget and plan accordingly for events in FY’17.
